Be aware of animals including snakes, birds, scorpions, Geckos, lizards and who knows what else you might encounter in the desert…. Javelina, coyote. You are in their space and they may feel territorial.
Respect other artists
Do not set up next to another artist without asking permission
Be respectful of other artists’ views.
How to handle passersby
If you’re inclined, stop for a chat, provide your business card if they’re interested.
Most passersby have no idea what you’re up to and are generally curious. Some might even be motivated to purchase your painting “off the easel”!
If you’d rather not chat, consider wearing earbuds, or hanging some sort of sign from your easel (or on the back of your shirt) saying something to the effect of “please do not disturb the artist”
Staying safe
Let someone know the direction you’re heading and when you expect to return
If possible, paint with a buddy
Always keep your cell phone and/or bear/pepper spray or a loud sound alarm at the ready
